The research emphasises how crucial it is to exercise caution while providing personal information online. The results show that everyone (100%) who plans to buy during the festive season of 2022 anticipates doing so online, with 61% stating they anticipate doing more than half of their festive shopping online. According to a poll of Indian adults, tech-related presents like smartphones (64%), smart watches (55%), and smart home appliances (47%) will be the most desired presents this festive season. Though only 8% of persons in India who were surveyed said they would buy less technology this festive season than in years past, 84% of those who would said this is because of worries about inflation and growing living costs. The majority of Indians polled (91%) said they were likely to make some sort of cost-cutting move this festive season to help with inflation or the rising cost of living. For some, this might mean clicking on a dubious link offering them a great deal on technology products (36%) or a lower energy bill (29%). Many Indian adults find solace in their time spent online over the festive season. The majority of Indian adults surveyed (78%) agree that using connected devices to access the internet over the festive season makes them feel more connected, and 74% say it improves their mental health. In fact, 65% of Indian adults feel that losing access to their connected devices during the festive season would be detrimental to their mental health. The poll also reveals that 95% of Indians want to take at least one step to manage their mental health this festive season, most frequently by going outside (54%), reading a book (50%), or reestablishing contact with loved ones via social media (50%). “Festivals bring friends and family together. Recently, there has been an increase in the number of online shoppers, and with that the rise in online shopping scams, gift card frauds, and postal delivery frauds. Our Norton report also suggests that many Indian adults surveyed who have fallen victim and been defrauded while online shopping have been impacted financially and have lost money as a result, the average loss of those surveyed being INR 6216. While some consumers are not strangers to threats and are taking preventative measures to protect themselves online, there is always room for improvement.,” said Ritesh Chopra, Norton Director India and SAARC Countries at NortonLifeLock.
