LG is planning to launch smartphones with new form factors this year. What we know is that LG is reportedly developing a foldable smartphone that bends towards the outside. The phone is expected to launch during Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is scheduled between January 25 and January 28. To recall, LG had filed a patent with World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) and United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). There have been quite a lot of LG foldable smartphone patents, but this one is claimed to be unique. The new patent has revealed a LG smartphone that folds on the outwards vs inwards or rolling. The patent gives a detailed explanation of what the LG foldable smartphone is going to look like. The patent reveals that the device from the outward folding looks like two symmetrically stacked smartphones that have been consolidated by a flexible touchscreen display. There is a spring-operated mechanism on the left part of the smartphone that elongates when it is unfolded.
This elongation helps the foldable display to stay tight and wrinkle free. The device when unfolded becomes a tablet. In the tablet mode, the UI of the device can adjust automatically for easy operability. The middle part of the display acts as the main navigation bar that has many applications in the form of icons. The device can display two different applications simultaneously on either halves or a single application according to the need. LG also recently announced at CES 2019, it is going to launch a 4K OLED TV that will be its flagship product. In this TV there will be a Dolby Atmos speaker unlike the previous prototype, though being similar to it in many respects. One of the key features of the TV is that it is going to have a ‘Line Mode’. After activating this, one-fourth of the screen will display music and various other options that can help you control other smart gadgets.
