Users would only have to pay Rs 199 per month for the mobile-only plan by Netflix. We should mention that this is less than half of its other monthly plan that starts at Rs 499. As a part of the plan, the users will get only one concurrent stream and only SD quality will be supported on it. There would not be any ads present as a part of the plan. Interested customers would have the option of paying for Netflix’s mobile-plan via any credit card or debit card. The Netflix has said that the mobile-plan has been ‘Made for India’ so India is the first and only country to get it. Netflix did say that the mobile-plan will roll out to other South East Asian countries later. However, it did not specify when it plans to make this plan global and exactly which countries will be getting it. Considering that people who access internet services via smartphones in India have grown tremendously since mobile data became affordable after Reliance Jio’s entry, the move by Netflix seems to make perfect sense. It is also worth mentioning that there are scores of people in India who only access the internet via their handsets, and Netflix’s mobile plan will be effective in catering to that audience. It is worth mentioning that is you opt for this plan; you would not have the option of screencasting Netflix content on TV. The only way to watch it will be via smartphones and tablets.
Speaking at the launch of the new mobile-plan, Ajay Arora, Director, Product Innovation, Netflix said, “Our members in India watch more on their mobiles than members anywhere else in the world – and they love to download our shows and films. We believe this new plan will make Netflix even more accessible and better suit for people who like to watch on their smartphones or tablets – both on the go and at home.” For the latest gadget and tech news, and gadget reviews, follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
