And now, the company along with Verizon has confirmed that the rumoured smartphone will be launched next year. According to reports, the headline of the joint press release sent out is evident enough – ‘Verizon and Samsung to release 5G smartphone in the US in first half of 2019.’ It is worth noticing that Samsung Galaxy S10 is not specifically mentioned in the press release that has been sent by the two companies, but it does mention that the 5G device will be powered by the upcoming flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform with the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem. And this rules out the possibility that Samsung is planning to re-release its current flagships – Galaxy S9 or Galaxy Note 9. Samsung and Verizon have plans to showing off a proof-of-concept device which has the Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem. The international version of the smartphone will be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 5100 5G processor instead of Qualcomm’s. Samsung’s Special Edition Galaxy S10 with 5G will reportedly come with six cameras in total – a four-camera setup at the back and dual selfie cameras. Reports suggest that the smartphone will sport a 6.7-inch display. Other than the special edition smartphone it is planning to unveil next year; Samsung will launch three other smartphones in its Galaxy S10 lineup. While the three smartphones are expected to launch early next year, the 5G version will be out in H1 2019. We should mention that 5G is a new technology and it won’t be available everywhere immediately because not all smartphones have support for it. Although we will see some smartphones with 5G connectivity in 2019, we would have to wait before it becomes mainstream like 4G LTE.
